    Awaiting Your Return From Shore |  The independent principality of 
    Monaco is a favorite haunt of the jet set. In the possession of the Grimaldi 
    family for almost 700 years, a treaty with France guarantees independence as 
    long as the throne is occupied by a Grimaldi. The 19th-century Romanesque 
    cathedral contains impressive works of art and the tomb of Princess Grace.

        Pier InformationThe ship is scheduled to dock at the Monaco Quai des Etas Unis.It is 
        about two miles to Old Monaco. The main square of Monte Carlo, Place du 
        Casino, is less than half a mile from the pier and can be reached via 
        the road, stairs or public elevator. Taxis are generally available 
        pierside.

        Shopping. Designer boutiques offering elegant clothing and 
        gorgeous jewelry are located around the Place du Casino, along Rue des 
        Moulins, and at the Galérie Métropole. Some shops close between 12:30 
        and 2.  |

        Cuisine. Excellent restaurants and hotels cater to the most 
        discriminating tastes. Open-air eateries near the port or around the 
        Place du Casino offer more casual options. Fresh seafood or a 
        bouillabaisse are well worth a try. |

        Other SightsOceanographic Museum. Located in Old Monaco, the museum  
        was one of the projects administered by the late Jacques Cousteau.
 Musée National des Automates & Poupées d’Autrefois. This 
        Museum of Dolls & Automatons, set in a 19th-century seaside village,  
        has a compelling collection of 18th- and 19th-century dolls and 
        mechanical figures.
 Old Monaco. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old 
        town, lined with quaint restaurants and sidewalk cafes.
 The Casino opens at  noon with Roulette, Trente and 
        Quarante; slot machines at 2; private gaming rooms open at 4. The 
        entrance fee is about 10 Euros, and a passport is required. Men must 
        wear jacket and tie.
 Cote d'Azur. From Monte Carlo, favorite trips include Nice, 
        Eze and St-Paul de Vence. Driving along one of the scenic Corniche roads 
        is in itself a highlight.
